Do You Have an 'Integrity Gap?'

By J.T. O'Donnell A friend, Colin Nanka, has started a new blog called, The Social Community. Since starting it, he has written several personal, honest posts about himself as an individual and a professional. Today's post was about his integrity gap. I found it very brave and refreshing. It's the kind of sharing of one's self that definitely makes me feel more connected to him and others. Why? It reminds me we are all human. What's an integrity gap? Colin actually opens the post with a definition of the term by Robin Sharma as follows: There can be no lasting happiness if you daily schedule is misaligned with your deepest values. If there is a gap between what you do and who you are, you are out of integrity. An integrity gap. The bigger the gap, the less your life will work and the less happiness you will feel. Some people would describe this concept as being congruent (the state achieved by coming together, the state of agreement) or having your video aligned with your audio. Internally, the values that lives deep inside you, your conscious will see it if you are misaligned. Too many people talk a good game, but talk is cheap and it really shows in your schedule and what you do.So, what's your integrity gap? C'mon now, we all have them - it's the difference between what we do and what we should do. So I ask you: As a professional, what can you reconcile in your approach to your career that will help you achieve what you really want to accomplish? i.e. What bad habit do you want to eliminate so you can come closer to being your true self? And for those wondering, "Why doesn't she share her integrity gap?" - I'm planning on it. I'm working on my own integrity gap confession post right now. You'll see it in the coming weeks here. In the meantime, I dare you to be as brave as Colin and admit what needs to change. The first step is acknowledging the integrity gap exists. I'm offering this site as the place to do it. So tell us, what's holding you back?
