Preferred Process For Following Up On Application: I am the quickest over email so just shoot me a quick note, referencing the position you applied to, and I will do my best to give you an up to date status of your application.

Things That Impress You In A Candidate: Well written resumes that capture accomplishments within each position on the resume. Makes my job so much easier when I can visibly see quota, project and goal attainment. Do not copy/paste your job description into your resume – tell me what you accomplished, what you did to increase the companies ROI for hiring you. I want to hire candidates that will bring value to our organization – not fluff.

Things Candidates Must Include To Be Considered For Job: Read the job description carefully before applying. The first 1-4 bullets on a job description are normally the mission critical skill sets that are required by the hiring manager. If you don’t have those skills, don’t apply. Transferable skills are taken into consideration but think about your competition, and determine if you can compete with a subject matter expert within those 4-bullets. Make yourself a success by applying to positions you are qualified for.

Things That Will Disqualify A Candidate From Getting Considered: Today’s social media can be a blessing and a curse. Be careful how aggressive you are with recruiters and/or hiring managers on media such as Linkedin. It’s great to connect and grow your network, but there are fine lines between networking during your candidacy and being overly aggressive. Be sure to follow the process of the company you are interviewing with and do not bypass process by sending multiple emails, through linkedin, to hiring managers, recruiters or other employees. Let your background speak for itself. Managers are looking for culture fits just as much as skill fits. I liken interviewing to dating – being overzealous before/after your initial “date” with a recruiter/hiring manager will result in a break-up.
