How Do I Deal With Diet-Obsessed Co-Worker?

Dear Experts, My co-worker just started a new diet. For the last two weeks she's been miserable and irritable. Even worse, all she talks about is what she can and can't eat, how much she worked out, etc. It's driving me nuts! I can't listen to it anymore. How do I tell her to stop without it making things uncomfortable? I don't want to hear it anymore, but I also don't want the cold shoulder all day either. Here is how our T.A.P. experts answered this question:@juliaericksonQ#172 Try empathy: sounds like this hard 4 u; do u have pple 2 talk 2 @ home? Listen. Then ask work question. @gradversityQ#172 Best thing would be to speak with her about your feelings in private. Any other way would risk hurting your relationship. @kgrantcareersQ#172 Have talk w manager about co-worker if it is affecting your productivity. This is key. Must B affecting productivity. @beneubanksQ#172 Try steering convo back to other topics. Sometimes people don't realize how much they're blabbing. @DebraWheatmanQ#172 Explain that u understand. Be supportive. Anything worth something worth the work. BUT, u need to focus on ur work. @tmonhollonQ#172 Whatever you do, don't wave chocloate cake under their face! Can you find a commonality instead? @jtodonnellQ#172 When giving peers feedback I suggest C sandwich: COMPLIMENT, careful CRITICISM & another COMPLIMENT. @ValueIntoWordsQ#172 Don't engage in diet topic-gently/firmly (intentionally) steer her away frm subject 2 focus on work/projects. @askamanagerQ#172 Being straightforward is always the answer. Just tell her you can only take so much diet talk before your head explodes. Our Twitter Advice Project (T.A.P.) is no longer an active campaign.
