Is Working Sundays Worth Getting Promoted?

Dear Experts, My boss just asked me to take on a new project. I'm very excited about it with one exception: part of it involves me working every Sunday so that something is ready first thing Monday morning. There's no way to get it done during the work week because it involves some data we capture through Sunday. I'm a very religious person and Sundays are a day of rest. I don't believe in working on Sundays. What should I do? This project could help me get promoted and will give me great experience and exposure to some important people in our company. But, I just don't think I can compromise on my values and beliefs. More over, I don't know how I would explain it to my family and members of my church if they found out. Here is how our T.A.P. experts answered this question:@juliaericksonQ#173 Ask urself/boss how 2 keep values & do job; what sched can u do? Cd be opps l8r that accomodate ur relig. @jtodonnellQ#173 Talk to boss. Seek advice on how to get it done w/out compromising personal beliefs. i.e. early AM on Mon. @gradversityQ#173 Your career is important, but not as much as your beliefs. Explain the situation to your boss and be true to yourself. @louise_fletcherQ#173 With all due respect to others, no one can answer this except you. Life is about choices and this is one of them. @askamanagerQ#173 Don't compromise religious beliefs. If no way but Sundays, explain situation to them. They may surprise you w/alternatives. @kgrantcareersQ#173 Key is how badly do u want promotion - n will u get it if u do this? Working a few Sundays temp might b worth it. @beneubanksQ#173 Never EVER let work come b/n you and your beliefs. Not worth it. Do it early Mon (i.e. 3AM) or not at all. @DebraWheatmanQ#173 See if the data can be generated Saturday PM. Otherwise, get up Monday before dawn, like 3am and get it done.
