How Do I Handle Applying for an Internal Position?

Dear Experts, My boss told me last week our CFO/COO mentioned she is thinking of adding a new position and asked her if I would be interested. I'm at least interested in finding out more details on the position, how should I handle this? Email the CFO to set up an appointment? Wait to be asked? We're in a hiring freeze now which may complicate things a bit. Any opinions would be welcomed. Thanks so much! Here is how our CAREEREALISM-Approved Experts answered this question on Twitter:Q#469 I would set up an appointment to speak in person. It will be easier to gauge the position. (@gradversity) Q#469 Email CFO. Set up a meeting. Get any info you can to prepare early. Hiring freeze might not matter. Mention your excited to learn more. Start selling skills now. (@DawnBugni) Q#469 Could e-mail CFO saying your boss told your about it. You're interesting in learning more. Could also tell your boss to tell CFO, put in CFO court. (@juliaerickson) Our Twitter Advice Project (T.A.P.) is no longer an active campaign.
