Recently, I heard a phrase for the first time that struck me deeply. I was watching an interview with Julia Roberts. When asked how she deals with challenges in her personal and professional life, she simply responded, “The only way out is through.”
The phrase stuck with me for a few days, then I forgot it. Until today…
I had to get up extra, extra early this morning for an unexpected meeting I truly didn’t want to attend. It was over an hour drive each way. I have lots on my plate right now, many stressful things too. I found myself contemplating on the drive how the heck I was going to get everything done while solving what feels like a mountain of challenges. I decided to turn on the radio in hopes of some upbeat music to improve my mood. Instead, I found American Idol judge, Stephen Tyler talking about his new book with the radio host. The host asked, “You lived a crazy life in the music world, how did your survive?” At which point Tyler said, “The only way out is through.”
I don’t think it’s a coincidence I heard that phrase twice recently. The fact is, millions of people right now are just as stressed as me (if not more), and are asking themselves, “How will I get through this?” I’m betting you are one of them.
