When a recession hits, many people immediately begin to worry about their jobs -- and with good reason. Recessions usually mean mass layoffs, fewer jobs, more competition for jobs, and less job security. But some careers are safer than others.

Several websites, including Glassdoor, have compiled lists of jobs that are expected to survive the next economic downturn. Every list is a little different, but there are some professions that continuously showed up. Here are five of those careers.

Minimum wage is currently a hot topic everywhere.

Nationally, there's ongoing debate about raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025, while at the state level many local governments are wrestling with their own minimum wage increase proposals as they keep an eye on things on the federal level. While allowing people the opportunity to earn more money seems like a good idea on the surface, some say it's not that simple.
