Do Hiring Managers Avoid Those Laid Off?

Dear Experts, I'm three years removed from college and was recently laid off. I've applied for a positions at 6 separate companies and have not had luck with any of them. Is it possible the reason I have not heard back from anyone because I'm young and have already experienced being laid off? Is that a turn-off for employers?
