What is This 'Key Word' Stuff People Talk About for Resumes?

Dear Experts, I was talking to a bunch of people at a party last night and the subject turned to applying online to jobs. Someone said you have to put all the "key words" in a job description in your resume so the computers pick them up and puts you in a file for the hiring manager to read. Is this true?
