You're familiar with the term work-life balance, but how often do you practice this way of life on a day-to-day basis?

We believe that work-life balance should be a non-negotiable term of living a happy and productive life. Overworking yourself can create burnout. Under-performing can lead to apathy, depression, and a lack of purpose.

Ask yourself: What does your current work-life balance look like?

  • Do you need more balance?
  • Are you unable to get that balance because your job is too demanding?
  • Are you willing to look for new career prospects?
  • Can you make any requests to your current manager to help promote a more flexible working schedule?
  • Do you crave more work and meaning in your professional projects/have too much time on your hands?

Regardless of where you are in your career or what kind of position you have, there are five habits you can start now without making any drastic career moves (especially if you're not ready to do so yet):

1.Improve Your Communication Skills

Become more self-aware of what methods and tools you've been using to communicate with others. How can they be improved?

Excellent communicators, especially in this digital era, will be more likely to find success and work-life balance in their careers, no matter what field they're in.

2.Create An Effective Morning Routine

Start your morning with a routine that works for you, but is based on some level of organization that will help you switch on to "working mode."

Upskilling your productivity will surely improve your mental and physical well-being—you'll be starting every day on the right foot.

3.Grow Your Professional Network

Join groups in your local community online or in-person! Get connected with people who share similar career aspirations or interests.

You'll be surprised how much you can learn, grow, and have fun while getting more professionally-savvy!

4.Learn How To Unplug

Take back your evenings and switch off your notifications after working hours by putting your devices aside. Doing this not only creates a physical barrier, but a mental one as well. You won't be tempted to check social media, open emails, or stay on top of the most recent buzz.

Work can wait until business hours (unless your job requires other commitments—and then it's a good time to ask yourself, do you always want to be plugged in?).

5.Plan Vacations Ahead & Execute!

Look at your calendar and prepare in advance. Let your leadership or management team know you'll be needing this time off.

Don't do this last minute! Why? You may end up feeling as if it's not the right time to take time off and then consequently, not take any days at all!

This also gives you some motivation to continue working hard, knowing there is something amazing coming up to look forward to. Treating yourself is always a mood-booster and mental health necessity.

Work-life balance is so key in our digital era, where speedy responses are expected and work can be accessed with a click of our phones. Still, it's so crucial to take a step back and give your mind a break.
