3 Tips To Get Your Health Back On Track (At Work) In The New Year
What better way to start out the New Year than with some healthy tips for the workplace? Today, we're going to help you NOT give in to those diets, detoxes, and weight-loss programs that we know you'll want to try for your New Year's resolutions.
First, we're going to begin by saying you do not need to go on any diet or detox just because it is the New Year.
If you want to set any kind of New Year's resolution or intention for a healthier lifestyle, make it more meaningful. Have it focus on actions, thoughts, your energy, and the way you approach different aspects of life, rather than looking at it as something you need to improve about yourself.
Improving (aka: needing "fixing") has a negative connotation, and that's not something you want to focus on.
So, with that in mind, here are three tips to help you make healthy lifestyle changes at work in the New Year.
1. Change Processed Foods To Whole Grains
Make an effort to switch your processed foods and snacks at your desk with more wholesome grains. Rather than sticking with white bread, white pasta, baked goods, and simple carbs, try more complex carbs like whole grain or whole wheat bread and pasta, or grains like quinoa or bulgur.
2. Watch Your Added Sugar Intake
Sugar is not toxic. You're going to have it in your day-to-day life. But, added sugar is something you can try to reduce as you aim to consume more wholesome foods.
We challenge you to go five days—the entire workweek—without having any added sugar. You can still eat fruit, dairy, or anything else with natural sugar. Just be sure to look at those nutrition labels and watch out for the words sugar, syrup, and any ingredients ending with -ose.
If you cut out added sugar for five days, we guarantee you'll notice a huge improvement in your energy levels, and you'll feel less bloated, too.
3. Focus On Hydration
Over the holidays, it's very common for people reduce their water intake without trying to, between the holiday festivities and just the busyness of this time of year. You're eating so much and you're likely drinking more alcohol, so hydration goes by the wayside.
Make an effort to get that good hydration back. Remember: you should be drinking approximately 1/2 your body weight in ounces every day.
Staying hydrated will help improve your gut, your overall complexion, and the overall function of your body systems. Water, seltzer water, unsweetened tea, and infused water are all great options to have at your desk and sip on during the workday.
