Promotion Killers: Weak Goals

If you’re going to get the promotion, you want you need to set S.M.A.R.T goals. These goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Bound. S.M.A.R.T goals will keep you focused and moving on a path that will help you get ahead. Sometimes, that path might not be as straight as you would like. It might involve some twists and turns along the way. That’s why you need to keep the big picture in mind. If you know exactly where you want to end up, it’s easier to see how all the pieces fit together. Goals are important. You can’t get what you want if you don’t know where you’re going. Written goals are the first step when it comes to life and career success. Sharpening your goals until they are clear and concise is the second step. If you don’t have written goals for your life and career, write some tonight. Then, check them against the S.M.A.R.T. criteria. Make sure they are Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound. Do this and you’ll be well ahead in the career success game.
